Blog Supports Good People of Iran
Well, Y'know, ummmm, the Blog knows nobody has read the Blog since the 1979 Revolution but I thought I would throw my weight behind what is going on in Iran.
For two reasons.
I have a soft spot for Iran after they drew 2-2 with us in 1997 and turfed us out of the World Cup. Iran were down 2-0 - I remember to this day missing the first goal from a 17 year old Harry Kewell as i strolled around the corner from my lounge in Garran to collect a beer from the kitchen fridge - when serial pest Peter Hoare ran on to the paddock to pull down the net.
Hoare of course doesn't know this, but i called him a fuck-knuckle. What struck me at the time as only slightly less idiotic than Hoare was the sight of the Iranian goal keeper doing summersaults around his goal square while they fixed the net.
" Dude," I said, " there are 19 minutes to go, you're 2-0 down, what is with this somersault action ? You're gone for all money. "
The rest of course is history. The game re-started, the Iranians scored twice, once from playing a simple long ball over the Australian's heads, and we were knocked out on the "away" goal rule.
Fair enough. I thought we would never make the World Cup after that. But 2006, and its thrills were even sweeter cos of this fuck-up. That is another Post.
Anyhow, what this Post is about is the spirit of the Iranians. Clearly these people are an impressive lot who will not give up easily. Based on that goalkeeper and this election. So, umm, support them anyway you can.
