If it's Monday then I was in Goulburn.

If this is Monday - then I am one day back from visiting Eloise in Goulburn.

Up until this visit my feelings on Goulburn jogged from non-committal, round the block a fews times, did a few stretches and finally thought um, well - this is not the most succesful of metaphors - um, it's a bit staid to put it politely ...

But, now, i rate Goulburn ...My favourite country town, full stop is Wagga. Mainly cos it's as close as you get to being in the city but still be in the country but Goulburn - it's got some qualities.

Spelling skills of the inhabitants is not one of them. I saw one sign featuring two of the direst spelling errors I have ever seen. It was on the site of a plannned residential devlopment. "Antisipated date of completion" was bad enough but hey, I was 26 before i learnt "separate" was spelt "separate" not "seperate," so that's cool but "indivual plots," is either careless, illiterate or a prime example of tradespeople smoking too many cones during their lunch break ...

The best yoghurt and fruit salad this side of "live bacteria go no holds barred" was the culinary highlight of a weekend that had all the classics - garlic bread, roast of the day, soup like your mumma boiled up. And this was just in the Goulburn Workers Club - outside of the Workers there are enough Chinese Restaurants, all with menus written on butcher's paper stuck up in the windows, to keep you in black bean sauce until you decide you really want to be in Mongolian lamb or Chicken and cashew nut ...

Other highlights ( with pics/vids to follow ) were -

Touring pro wrestlers at the Workers. The "Mexecutioner" won the night but how can you not win when you have dreadlocks, green tights and "Push the little Daisies" by Ween as the song playing when you enter the ring. Actually, that song belonged to another wrestler, "Billy Flyswat" from the Central Coast, but you know what i'm saying. Billy didnt win but he had a very nice blue and yellow outfit with fluoro green wrist bands. Ow !!

Did any of you know my favourite architectural style is "white brick 70's suburban," - it just never dates - Goulburn is a hot bed of architectural styles. The buildings are up for it, especially the Spanish Mission style. The walk around town, with guidebook in hand, was inspiring. I felt a better person for it. Much the same as I felt when i spent 10 minutes in Goulburn K-Mart watching that new ad for Le Specs sunglasses. Ohmigod !

Golf ! Eloise tore up the Tully Park club ... the clubs that had sat in the boot of my car for 10 years got a work-out. If you see Eloise with a 7 iron, then get your cameras out ...

Goulburn, I give it 10 schooners of New. Tell all your friends.
