The Cause of His Anger Will Quickly Vanish or He Doesn't Stay Upset for Long
Four years of high school Latin behind him and a promising Latin Career lay ahead for the young boy from the inner Northern suburbs. All cut in the bud.
Y'see, I had come across a copy of the year 11 exam and decided with some friends of the time ( from the Outer Northern suburbs. We're talkin' Westie equivalent. I have after all always been a man of the people ) that copying the exam would be a good idea. We furtively entered the library, set up an elaborate lookout arrangement and proceeded to photocopy sufficient copies for us all. This was, believe it or not, in the days of the Gestetner machine. A smelly purple inking beast it was with a handle to wind that would re-produce the original in smeared purple lines. We quickly got our copies and left the library in an excited rush. Soon after, while quietly sitting on a corner of the front oval considering how to translate passages from The Aeneid, a thought occured to us all in a moment of horrible universal consciousness. We had left the original of the exam on the machine !
Most unclimactically, we did manage to retrieve it undiscovered and I continued on to at least get a B+ for the exam. I had issues with our teacher, a South African, who believed I had an "attitude problem," and not even the B+ could placate him. Not long after, I ceased my Latin studies and Mr Moore, the teacher, and I went our separately ways. Knodding corridor acquaintances we became.
If only I'd done year 12 perhaps I could more easily translate Damien's gentle chiding. You bastard !
Indeed, Damien, reflection or even contemporaneous thought, is all good. A necessity for sure. "Will", though, is more a preoccupation of mine than either of these. Reflection and thought , i can capably do in my underwear and love every minute of it, but "will" is the money and i want to bank it. AAA Rating, i'm talkin'.
The ball is ahead tonight. THRE and I know what we are wearing but beyond that who knows. Undoubtedly, it will be a spectacle and perhaps play a part in us reaching the totality of reason, will, sensuality and feeling we like to aspire to. I have been considering the recent correspondence on philosophy and meaning most keenly. We must take a few moments when we next meet to explore this more deeply ar at least tangentially before it all reverts to crazy abandon again.
